How It Works

As an inherently digital asset, it may seem counter-intuitive to hold Bitcoin physically.

At its core, owning Bitcoin means having access to the information necessary to move that Bitcoin. By securely and safely inscribing this relevant information on a physical item, the item can be used as a key to access the Bitcoin, or be used as Bitcoin itself.

Whoever has access to this information, has access to the underlying Bitcoin. This is why it is important to not only safely and securely store your Bitcoin Bullion product, but it is also why we place great care in the manufacturing of this information as well.

All Alpine Bitcoin Bullion products have two necessary secret keys. (the encrypted private key and the encryption password) Both keys are necessary for the funds to be accessed. These keys are manufactured in separate geographic locations, by separate organizations. Ensuring no single failure point at any time during the manufacturing, assembly, or distribution of every item.

Bitcoin Verification

You can verify your Bitcoin independently, and at anytime. All the Bitcoin in existence can be found on the blockchain, which is a public and transparent ledger.

To view this ledger, and ultimately your Bitcoin, you can visit a Bitcoin Blockchain Explorer website of your choice. (Search "BTC Blockchain Explorer" on the internet to find many options). We recommend Mempool.space or Blockchair as good options.

In the search bar of your chosen Blockchain Explorer, enter the Bitcoin Address, or scan the QR code that can be found on the back of your Bullion item. (The location of this address can be seen above, and starts with the characters bc1q).

From here, you will be able to view and verify the Bitcoin on your Bullion product.

Bitcoin Redemption

To transfer your Bitcoin off of the Bullion product, you will need to break the tamper seals of the protective acrylic case, and remove the tamper-evident holographic label on the back of the Bullion product, exposing the secret keys underneath.

Importing Keys on a Wallet

Using a P2WPKH compatible BIP-38 wallet, such as BlueWallet LogoBlueWallet (available on iOS and Android), import the wallet by scanning the Private Key QR or entering the text. You will then be prompted to enter the Encryption Passphrase. Once imported, you will be able to transfer the Bitcoin to a different location.

Safeguarding Tips

One of Bitcoin's most important qualities, is the permanence of transactions that happen on its blockchain. Due to there being no central authority or controlling entity of Bitcoin, there is no ability to reverse or claw-back Bitcoin once it is out of your hands.

While this is beneficial once you are holding your own Bitcoin – as no one can take it away from you – it also makes it a very lucrative asset to steal for aspiring thieves and scammers.

Avoid Irreversible Losses

  • Keep your Bullion in a safe, secure, and secret location.
  • Do not provide your Bitcoin private keys or passwords to strangers, as anyone with this info can control the Bitcoin.
  • Do not redeem your Bitcoin to a digital wallet that you did not personally and securely create, or do not solely control.
